Music Mondays:
Bean Tambourine
It’s time to make some music! Make a DIY tambourine with us, then shake it to the beat of some fun songs.
MATERIALS & INSTRUCTIONS
Materials: Two paper plates, a handful of dry beans, uncooked rice, or beads (we used dry black beans!), a stapler, and some decorating supplies like crayons, colored pencils, or markers.
Step 1: Decorate your paper plates! We’re going to fill the inside with noisemakers, so you only need to decorate the undersides. Then, Put a handful of your noisemaker of choice (beans, rice, beads, etc.) on one of the paper plates.
Step 2: Place the other plate on top, then staple the plates together around the edges. Make sure your staple goes through both plates, or you could end up with a big mess! (We might be speaking from experience…😄)
Step 3: Enjoy your new tambourine! You can tap it or shake it to make music.
VOCAB LIST
MUSIC: Sounds that are combined to create something beautiful and harmonic. Music can express emotion.
Questions: What’s your favorite song? How does that song make you feel?

Question: Can you think of any other percussion instruments?
TEMPO: How fast or slow music is played.
Questions: Can you change the tempo of your tambourine? Can you give it a fast tempo? What about a slow tempo?
