Self-Care Saturday: DIY Sidewalk Paint

Given everything our community is facing due to COVID-19 and racial injustice, we want to remind you that it’s okay not to be okay. You may find yourself feeling angry, tired, sad, frustrated, and uncertain about the future. It’s okay to feel this way.

You might also be feeling hopeful and encouraged that our community has come together to fight for what’s right. When we stand up for what we believe in it’s also a good idea to remember to recharge and take care of ourselves.

One way to express our feelings and recharge ourselves is by making art! Today we’re making DIY sidewalk chalk paint which you can use to paint how you’re feeling, to share messages of hope, justice, and love, or to paint anything you’d like!

3 cups water
3 cups cornstarch
Food coloring
A large mixing bowl
A spoon
Muffin tins or bowls to separate the paint colors

STEP 1. Mix together your water and cornstarch in a large mixing bowl until all the clumps are gone.
STEP 2. Pour your mixture into a few muffin tin sections or into some small bowls.
STEP 3. Add food coloring to each muffin tin section or small bowl and mix again.

Voila! Now you have sidewalk paint.
