Literacy Thursday: Bee-Bim Bop!

For today’s Storytime, we’re going to read Bee-Bim Bop! and follow along with a Korean-American family as they create a delicious dinner. Bee-Bim Bop! is written by Linda Sue Park and illustrated by Ho Baek Lee. Linda Sue Park is an author, educator, and Newbery Medal winner for her novel A Single Shard. In addition to his work as an illustrator, Ho Baek Lee is also a writer and has authored several children’s books. He lives in Seoul, South Korea.

Bibimbap or Bee-Bim Bop: A Korean dish with rice, vegetables, eggs, and sometimes meat. 
Heritage: Traditions that are passed down from one family member to the next. In this book, the mom passes down her recipe to her family. What are some traditions that your family has passed down to you?

1. What is your favorite dish to make with your family?
2. What ingredients do you need to make it?
3. What kitchen tools do you use to make it? In Bee-Bim Bop!, they used a frying pan, a pot, a knife, and a spatula.
