Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend

Saturday, January 17, 2026 - Monday, January 19, 2026

Upcoming Special Programs:

1

Celebrate MLK Day all weekend long with us from Saturday, January 17 – Monday, January 19! Learn about Martin Luther King Jr., his message of hope and acceptance, and more through hands-on activities like watercolor portraits,  helping build a bridge, and more. We will be joined by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and local actor, Markell Williams.

Activities:

Morph Gallery: Timeline of Dr. King's Life

Morph Gallery will be laid out as a timeline through Dr. King's life, with 39 steps (footprints) through the area to symbolize his 39 years of life with fun activities.

Science Bar: Build-A-Bridge

In March of 1965, Dr. King took part in a historic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama to fight for equal rights for Black Americans. At the Science Bar, we'll talk about the famous photos of the protesters crossing Edmund Pettus Bridge, and then challenge guests to build their very own bridges!

Thank You Cards for Community Helpers

In partnership with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, guests can write thank you cards that will later be delivered to local healthcare workers. Signage will connect this with Dr. King’s letter writing, as well as his desire for all of us to volunteer and serve in our communities.

Art Studio: Watercolor Portraits and Quotes

Inspired by Dr. King's portrait that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery, guests will have the opportunity to paint watercolor portraits! In addition to watercolor supplies, birthday hats will be available for guests to decorate in preparation for our birthday parades on stage!
