Black History Month
Thursday, February 5, 2026 - Tuesday, March 3, 2026
Upcoming Special Programs:
For the whole month of February, we’re celebrating Black History Month! The Museum is highlighting Black leaders from the past and present that are making a difference in our world today. It’s important to learn about our history, and we also want to celebrate trailblazers in our community and all over the world who are working hard to stand out and lift people up!
Activities:
CMA Stage Storytime: "Wind Flyers"
Gather around the CMA Stage for a celebration of the history and achievements of the Tuskegee Airmen, with this beautifully illustrated story, "Wind Flyers" by Angela Johnson
CMA Stage: How Does a Plane Fly?
Join us as we learn all about planes – what’s inside them, and how they fly – with a fun song and an interactive, hands-on diagram that shows their inner workings, and what makes them soar!
Science Bar: Another Happy Landing
Learn about stability and shock absorption as you create landers that will safely deposit aliens on their home planet. Use the principles of engineering as we celebrate Black astronauts like Michael Anderson, Yvonne Darlene Cagle, and Mae C. Jemison this Black History Month!
Art Studio: Make It Like Mavis
Learn about the work of abstract artist Mavis Pusey and then use pre-cut shapes to create an abstract masterpiece of your own!
