The Power of Play

Why is play essential for childhood development—and how does the Children's Museum of Atlanta help make it possible?

“Play is not just fun—it’s how children learn, grow, and discover who they are. Every moment at our museum is designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and create lasting memories.”

Play Philosophy

CMA is more than a museum — we're a nonprofit dedicated to bringing play and learning to every child in Atlanta, including those who might not otherwise have access.

Explore

Our exhibits invite children to investigate the world around them at their own pace, building curiosity and a love of discovery that lasts a lifetime.

Experiment

From science to art to storytelling, every experience at CMA is hands-on. Children learn by doing, testing ideas, and seeing what happens.

Imagine

Play is where creativity is born. Our spaces are designed to spark imaginative thinking and give children the freedom to create without limits.

“Best investment we made this year! Our kids ask to go every weekend, and we don't have to think twice about the cost. Worth every penny.”

Our History

Founded in 1988, Children's Museum of Atlanta opened its permanent home in Centennial Olympic Park in 2003. Since then, it has become Atlanta's premier destination for hands-on, exploratory learning for young children — a recognized authority on informal learning and a signature element of Atlanta's cultural landscape.

1988

Children's Museum of Atlanta is founded, with a passionate group of community leaders committed to bringing play-based learning to the children of Atlanta.

2003

After a major community fundraising campaign, the museum opens its permanent home at 275 Centennial Olympic Park Drive — right in the heart of downtown Atlanta.

3.8M+

Total visitors have passed through our doors since opening — families, school groups, and community members creating a lifetime of play-based memories.

Today

We continue to grow as Atlanta's premier destination for hands-on learning, issuing 34,000+ free and reduced tickets annually and reaching 8,000+ kids through community outreach.
