RULES + POLICIES
The Children’s Museum of Atlanta is designed to be enjoyed by families with young children. Exhibits and educational content are planned to be appropriate for children 8 and younger. The following rules and policies have been developed and are enforced to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all our guests.
At CMA, parents/caregivers are responsible for supervising their children at all times. You are your child’s best advocate for staying safe.
To assist parents/caregivers in keeping children safe while exploring the Museum, we have several security measures in place.
1. Security cameras record everyone entering and leaving through the front doors, as well as moving about the Museum in public places.
2.All Museum staff members are in radio communication with one another at all times. When children and parents/caregivers become separated there are standard procedures that are immediately put into effect to reunite guests quickly and efficiently. These procedures have been proven effective on a daily basis. All staff members are available to help reunite parties. Our Security desk is the best place to start if a child or adult/caregiver has been separated from their party.
3. NO ADULTS ARE ALLOWED TO ENTER THE MUSEUM WITHOUT A CHILD. Any adult that needs to enter the facility without a child is escorted through the exhibit floor by a staff member – there are no exceptions.
Some of our guests have asked, “why not use a security system of matching wristbands, stamps, or badges?” We have investigated such a system and are convinced that those systems create a false sense of security. We want our guests to feel safe however we also want our guests to be vigilant and help us keep the Museum a safe place for everyone.
Adults are not permitted to enter the Museum Exhibit Floor without children. Adults wishing to visit the Museum can request a brief tour based on staff availability. We recommend calling ahead to make an appointment with the appropriate department. Adults meeting their family that are already inside must either have the family pre-purchase their ticket and leave their name and ticket at the front desk or call the family already inside to meet them at security after purchasing a ticket.
Children under 18 are not permitted to enter the Museum or remain in the Museum without adult supervision. Adults are classified as anyone 18 and older. The Museum asks that adults stay with children at all times.
We require a 1:5 (Adult: Children) ratio on our exhibit floor. Children must be supervised at all times. No security can take the place of adult supervision. Please have fun with, and supervise, your children.
Children with an elevated temperature, or an illness that may be contagious (such as pink eye or flu) or too sick to go to school are asked to not visit the Museum for the safety of our guests.
Snack and drink vending machines are located on our mezzanine level. Families are welcome to bring sack lunches. Lunch tables are located on our mezzanine level and are available on a first come basis. Food, drinks, and gum are not permitted in our exhibit spaces.
Birthday type foods, gifts and celebrations are only permitted with the purchase of a Museum birthday party package.
Shoes must be worn at all times.
Due to our high ceilings and concerns with latex, balloons are not permitted inside the building.
Guests are required to wear proper attire, including tops, bottoms and shoes that are appropriate for a family facility.
For the safety of all our visitors, the Museum does not permit guns/weapons of any kind inside the building. Uniformed police officers are the exception.
The Museum is a non-smoking facility, including e-cigarettes.
Taking photos of your family is allowed, but we ask that you do not capture other families and children in your photos. At times, the Museum has media and photographers on the exhibit floor. By entering our facility you have consented to having the Museum use your image for marketing purposes. If you wish to not be photographed you must notify security immediately upon entering. Security cameras, electronic access controls, and security personnel are in place at all times.
Service dogs are permitted into the building
Business visitors must check in with visitor services staff at the front desk.
