Winter Olympics Opening Day Programs
February 10 @ 11:00 am - 4:30 pm
Special Music & Movement Program – 11:00 AM
Join the Imaginators for CMA’s very own torch relay to light the CMA Olympic Torch! Once the torch is lit, recite the Olympic pledge, and then march in our very own parade of nations, just like at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang!
Special Winter Olympics Celebration Program – 12:00 PM & 2:00 PM
Through a fun sports relay game led by the CMA Imaginators, learn all about the important winter sports played in different countries around the world, and take a guess at which sport unites us all.
Storytime – 1:00 PM
Circle around the CMA stage to hear a special Olympics-themed story including books such as Snowman Paul at the Winter Olympics by Yossi Lapid and Illustrated by Joanna Pasek, a story which promotes lessons of honesty, fairness, and working hard to pursue your dreams – all important things learned while playing sports!
Super Spectacular Science Show…On Ice! – 3:00 PM
Be your own Winter Olympic Figure Skater alongside Professor Labcoat! While attempting the perfect axel and toe-loop, Professor Labcoat will teach future gold-medalists all about the forces, angles, and science behind skating.
CMA Olympics Closing Ceremonies – 4:00 PM
Join the Imaginators at the CMA Stage as we close out the CMA Olympics with an interactive music and movement program that includes learning how to say the names of key Olympic sports in Korean and a final parade of nations!
Science Bar – open 11:00 AM – 3:30 PM
All Olympic athletes must take good care of their bodies and stay in great health in order to perform their best at the Olympics. In conjunction with our CMA Olympic programming, visit the mezzanine level of the museum to explore science activities all about health, nutrition, and the human body! Staffed by a STEM, the Science Bar is where questions turn into answers!
Art Studio – open 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
The projects in the Art Studio connect and are inspired by the traveling exhibits in the museum as well as cultural holidays. Children discover colors and explore artists from around the world. To celebrate the start of the 2018 Winter Olympics, budding athletes who visit the art studio will be able to make their own award medal out of recycled CDs and other unique materials!
Build It Lab – open 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Inspired by the opening of the Olympic Games, join our CMA Build It Lab Educator on the mezzanine level of the museum near the Science Bar to help us build our own CMA “bobsled” track! This fun marble run will spark creativity, nurture curious minds, and ignite the next wave of innovators.
