Celebrate Day of the Dead: A Cultural Exploration

Mini-Musical – 11:00 AM & 12:00 PM

Hilarity Academy – Congratulations! You have all been accepted to Hilarity Academy, a place where comedy and science collide. Join Professor Punchline as he teaches Jo King how to use laughter to engage in the world around him. You might even find yourself in the middle of a joke.

Special Performance – 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM

Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday when family and friends gather to remember loved ones who have passed away. Celebrate the music, movements, and costumes of Dia de los Muertos with guest performer, Alma Mexicana Danza Folklorica, an Atlanta-based dance group that presents traditional Mexican dances.

Super Spectacular Science Show – 1:00 PM

Every afternoon, Professor Labcoat shares a fascinating science demonstration with the whole museum! Join her to see what kind of fun she and her assistants have cooked up!

Music & Movement – 2:00 PM

How about those bones! Join us for our Skeleton Scavenger Hunt and Hokey Pokey music and movement!

Special Storytime – 3:00 PM

Rosita y Conchita by Eric Gonzalea and Erich Haeger

Join the Imaginators for a special Storytime in celebration of Day of the Dead. In this rhyming, bi-lingual book selection, Conchita sets up her own Day of the Dead memorial alter to honor her beloved sister, Rosita, who uses clues from the alter to travel through the spirit world and reconnect with Conchita. This heartfelt tale emphasizes the everlasting, special relationship of family.

Science Bar – open 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Professor Labcoat is ready to unravel the science behind the scents, colors, and traditions of Dia de los Muertos. Continue your cultural exploration of this meaningful Mexican holiday at the Science Bar, where questions turn into answers!

Art Studio – open 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM **There is no Sewing Thursday today**

The projects in the Art Studio connect and are inspired by the traveling exhibits in the museum as well as cultural holidays. Children discover colors and explore artists from around the world. To celebrate Day of the Dead, join our art educator in making traditional Sugar Skulls.

Build It Lab – open 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Children will enjoy this supervised space where they have access to real tools and materials needed to spark creativity, nurture curious minds, and ignite the next wave of innovators. In observance of Day of the Dead, visitors to the Build It Lab can make their own Dia de los Muertos alter candle holder.
