Special Guest Performance – 11:30 AM
Gather around the CMA Stage for a special guest performance by the Atlanta Chinese Dance Company in celebration of Chinese New Year! Founded in 1991, the Atlanta Chinese Dance Company educates and entertains metro Atlanta and surrounding areas about Chinese history and culture through the art of Chinese dance. They perform original, full-evening productions, and are also dedicated to community outreach performances at schools, libraries, arts festivals, and now, Children’s Museum of Atlanta!
Music & Movement – 12:15 PM and 2:15 PM
Join the Imaginators on stage to continue CMA’s celebration of Chinese New Year. Grab a colorful fan or umbrella and learn traditional Chinese festival dances!
Special Storytime for Chinese New Year
Read along with the Imaginators as they share aloud Grace Lin’s colorful story, Bringing in the New Year, a tale of a Chinese American family preparing to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. Learn through the story how many Chinese American families decorate their house, cook special foods, and celebrate the start of a new year together at parades with lanterns, fireworks, lion dancers, and even dragons!
Join the Imaginators for this seasonal program that features fruits and vegetables that can be harvested in Georgia throughout the year. Visitors will participate in a scavenger hunt and a cold cooking activity.
Super Spectacular Science Show – 4:00 PM
Every afternoon, Professor Labcoat shares a fascinating science demonstration with the whole museum! Join her to see what kind of fun she has cooked up! Questions are encouraged at the end of the show.
Science Bar – open 11:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Science is everywhere, but it’s especially on the mezzanine at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta! Staffed by a STEM educator with a whole menu full of fun activities and a whole head full of knowledge, the Science Bar is where questions turn into answers! In celebration of Chinese New Year, discover the science behind fireworks, and explore how light circuitry works to illuminate the floats in Chinese New Year parades!
Art Studio – open 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM
The projects in the Art Studio connect and are inspired by the traveling exhibits in the museum as well as cultural holidays. Children discover colors and explore artists from around the world. On Chinese New Year, young artists will be inspired by images of Chinese New Year firework shows to create their own firework art posters using recycled paper towel tubes.
Build It Lab – open 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Children will enjoy this supervised space where they have access to real tools and materials needed to spark creativity, nurture curious minds, and ignite the next wave of innovators. Woodworking and other popular maker skills encourage visitors to be curious, creative and innovative. In celebration of Chinese New Year, visit the Build It Lab to build your own Chinese Drum from cardboard and clothes hangers!
