Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday

Special Program – 11:00 AM & 2:00 PM
Participate in a special readers’ theatre program that will highlight key leaders of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement in the United States, many of whom marched alongside Dr. King. Dress up in clothes from the decade, hear about these leaders’ lives and accomplishments, and consider how you can be your own champion for change!
I HAVE A DREAM…Special Program – 12:00 PM
Gather around the CMA stage as Imaginator Jerry G. White recites Dr. Martin Luther King’s famous I Have a Dream speech – an annual CMA tradition that is guaranteed to move both children and adults to continue to work toward Dr. King’s vision in their own community.
Super Spectacular Science Show – 1:00 PM
Every afternoon, Professor Labcoat shares a fascinating science demonstration with the whole museum! Join her to see what kind of fun she and her assistants have cooked up! Questions are encouraged at the end of the show.
Storytime – 3:00 PM
Join the Imaginators for a special storytime focused on finding the similarities between us, and appreciating each other’s differences – an important lesson expressed by Dr. King. In the sugary sweet tale, We All Love Pancakes written by Jennifer Greevy and illustrated by Jesse Mader, the main character Logan moves to a new neighborhood and learns to value the unique differences between him and his new friends, and learns that despite their differences, they all love pancakes!
Science Bar – open 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Science is everywhere, but it’s especially on the mezzanine at the Children’s Museum of Atlanta! Staffed by a STEM educator with a whole menu full of fun activities and a whole head full of knowledge, the Science Bar is where questions turn into answers!
Art Studio – open 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM
For centuries, the dove has symbolized love, peace, and unity – key tenants of Dr. King’s vision and legacy. Visit the Art Studio on MLK Day to create your own paper dove bird.
Build It Lab – open 10:30 AM-3:30 PM
Dr. King will always be remembered for working toward his dreams of equality in the United States and inspiring others to do the same. On MLK Day, join us in the Build It Lab to express your own dreams for the future by creating a dream mobile from wood and other craft materials.
