Super Spectacular Science Show – 1:00 PM

Music & Movement – 2:00 PM

Head to the CMA stage to celebrate Black History Month through music and movement! For centuries, African Americans have contributed to the sounds and rhythms of the most popular American musical trends. Our CMA Imaginators will honor these contributions by taking guests back in time to the roaring 1920s’ Harlem Renaissance, when African American jazz musicians in the New York borough of Harlem started a revolution of music and dance! Come learn the Charleston!

Storytime – 3:00 PM

Black History Month is a special opportunity to recognize and celebrate the contributions of African Americans in Science, Literature, Music, and Sports! Join us for a special Black History Month storytime featuring the book, Look What Brown Can Do! By T. Marie Harris, Illustrated by Neda Ivanova.

Science Bar – open 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Visit the mezzanine level of the museum to explore the important discoveries of sometimes unknown African American scientists whose work has impacted modern knowledge in the areas of botany, mathematics, chemistry, and even space exploration! Staffed by a STEM educator with a whole menu full of fun activities and a whole head full of knowledge, the Science Bar is where questions turn into answers!

Art Studio – open 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM

The projects in the Art Studio connect and are inspired by the traveling exhibits in the museum as well as cultural holidays. Children discover colors and explore artists from around the world. In February, children who visit the art studio will engage with the works and art mediums of prominent African American artists including Carrie Mae Weems and Kara Walker.

Build It Lab – open 10:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Children will enjoy this supervised space where they have access to real tools and materials needed to spark creativity, nurture curious minds, and ignite the next wave of innovators. Woodworking and other popular maker skills encourage visitors to be curious, creative and innovative. As part of CMA’s celebration of Black History Month, guests who visit the Build It Lab will learn about the legacy of Garrett Augustus Morgan, the inventor of the traffic signal. Using wood and paper, children will create their own traffic light to take home, while exploring the circuitry used to light up traffic lights in Atlanta and cities around the world!
